Type of course: General English– Adults/Young Adults Level: C1.2 (CEFR), Advanced Plus Number of teaching hours: 84 Teaching hours per session: 2.5 Presence: Missing classes or coming unprepared for them is not recommended, even though I will try to do regular revision of the material. Still, if you happed to miss a session, you can check your email in order to know what we have done and what the homework is, so that you are prepared for the next one. Coursebook: Clockwise Advanced Material and course objectives: The course being a very high level andaiming at developing your communication skills and filling in grammar gaps, gives us the freedom to select and focus on language topics, skills and subskills that you would like to perfect and need. Also, topics that interest you will be preferred. This is why, in the first session, we will do a needs-analysis and will agree on what to include in the course and what our objectives (as a class and each of you individually) for these four months are. Material taken per session: approximately one lesson and a half (two-three pages) from the student’s book. However, some lessons may be skipped or substituted or their order may be changed. I am also going to supplement the course with extra materials – authentic, films, songs, interviews, etc. Tests: There are two progress tests during the course, which aim to check how you are dealing with the material studied and whether you need further practice on something: -         Progress Test One tests your skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) and is not linked with the material in the coursebook. -         Progress Test Two tests grammar and vocabulary studied in the coursebook. Final Test – in sessions 31, 32 It consists of five papers – reading, listening, speaking, writing and language systems (grammar and vocabulary from the coursebook). You need to do the final test in order to receive a certificate for the level and to continue in the next one. Homework: the respective practice page from the coursebook after each covered lesson (usually half a page after each class); sometimes written tasks or preparation for projects Extra homework: unit test after each three lessons from the coursebook. These can be printed out, completed and handed in to the teacher whenever and if you have time to do them. Extra exercises and practice: If you feel that you need to read further explanations and examples of the grammatical or lexical topics taught in class, feel free to contact and let me know. You could also request extra grammatical or lexical exercises, as well as reading and listening ones. If you enjoy or need more writing, you can ask me for extra samples, tips and, of course, writing tasks, which you can either email me or handwrite and give to me. Readers, grammar books and dictionaries: It will be very helpful for you if you supplement the course with at least one book to read and use a grammar book and a good English-English dictionary. For this I will email you a bibliography list with some good titles as well as some books. Please, choose at least one of the books to read by the end of the course. If you would like to read more, just let me know. Contact with the teacher: I am going to send you emails with information about the material done in class and the homework as well as extra materials. These include a vocabulary list, extra homework, the audio files for the listening tasks done in class and some other materials from the lesson. In this way you will know how to prepare if you have missed a lesson and left earlier.
